Monday, June 8, 2015, 5:37:50 AM- More Waffle :D
Well it is Very Interesting grin

As a specialty lens, it is absolutely USELESS at anything but what it was designed to do.

WARNING: it IS a specialty lens that will do NOTHING but 1:1 or better, and thats anywhere between 1:1 to 1:5

oh woweeeee, where does one start?

LIGHT LOSS: if you do a sum/math/arithmetic that I can't be bothered explaining, to get "Effective f/stop" over magnification ..... just trust me .... 5X / f16 = Effective f92 sad hot damn thats a LOT of light loss.

DOF: ? ..... WHAT DOF?! ... 1:1 f/16 > 2.24mm ... 1:5 f16 > 0.269mm

clearly shows NO DOF! v

Working distance: 100mm 1:1 down to 41mm at 1:5 [100mm away is all you can go, thats it, no more, the lens is a specialty lens, and the maximum focus distance is 100mm][4 inches]

Tripod is a MUST, Focussing Rail would be bloody nice!!!! Remote Trigger is a MUST, you wont hand hold it, and deffo will not press the shutter button! without blur, Lighting.

I'm actually as happy as a pig in cheese with it, after trying it out grin even with the LIMITATIONs it has, the results could be stunning, if one works at technique .... PATIENTS ...... maybe buy a *******ing focus rail, or make one, get into Focus Stacking [i think i already have the program?][focus rails are even computer driven these days, WOW][more batteries]

It's not a lens for the feint hearted, think wisely Glasshoppas!!! it is a rewarding art of photography, but a BIG expensive mistake if you can't do the technical associated with it, or want a 'versatile' lens. grin

Smell me later grin

Saturday, June 6, 2015, 3:03:54 PM- Macro / close up ?
At times I skip round the net, in furtography sites/forums, and the word 'macro' is loosely bandied about?

Close Up: is exactly that, close up >>>>>

Macro: is defined as 'life' size, A K A 1:1 .... the old film size was 35mm wide, so 1:1 means a subject is 35mm wide, it fits on a 35mm frame of film. >>>>

It pings me off that the 2 while similar, both are extraneously lumped in the same word ..... to the uninitiated, when in-fact they are both separate fields of furtography.

Anyone want ice cream with this waffle? grin

Friday, June 5, 2015, 8:34:54 AM- Interesting to say the least ...
No bells, No whistles, NO Auto focus, and NO [bleep] DOF sad ummm hulloooo, CRIKEY!! [I did know that, but, CRIKEY!]

A: will be Interesting grin
B: will be frustrating ?
C: all of the above tongue

The first test subject don't move, it is a computer CPU, its a semi interesting thing up close and personal ? [from my point of view]

Thursday, June 4, 2015, 9:10:59 PM- 3 years ago, 'we' [royal] had a go at up close and personal bug video ...

While not a great success ..... hanging a camera off a tripod upside down and chasing a bug or 2 round the lawn was interestingly ok .....

Hopefully, today is fruitful, and the era of up close and personal in a bugs life will begin again soon. No, I don't half like bugs now do I? It is an art of photography that I have missed since the era of celluloid sad

Off to the big smoke, there is one on the shelf, at a E O F Y sale price. grin

Friday, February 6, 2015, 11:04:53 PM- pix with IMPACT!
I'm a stickler for one or 3 things, anyone will know my biggest thing is LEVEL water/horizon line, unless it it such a dramatic shot that this can be diagonal in the frame and i will accept it.

Disclaimer out the way, when you see a pix, and it HITS you in the eye, and you go WOWOWEEE thats nice, why does your brain do the W0W factor?

Composition!

Pre digi, there were split screens, in the center, for spot on focus, AKA focus until the 2 halves of that screen aligned ..... digi age, an area in the center of the screen that auto focuses on the area in said defined range of 9 or 11 spots? yes you can shift this area around the screen/viewfinder, but who does?

So many nice shots, could be really nice shots, if the main subject is shifted out of the direct center of the frame, be it pre production, or post production.

Just a waffle on, no ice cream. grin

"I have detected a sloppy attitude of mind creeping in, in that I assume shoddy alignment can be corrected by Photoshop's arbitrary angle rotate, and that indifferent framing can be sorted by a spot of quick cropping. It's not good, and I'm starting to correct. (Not auto-correct.)"

Thursday, December 4, 2014, 2:05:15 PM-
until certain life events are either ended/concluded, my photographic enterprises are on hold.

I do love photography, but my tolerance level, is 0, at present.

keep snapping, people, there is a budding pro in every amateur.

strive for excellence, or just enjoy pushing the button.
